At the Session

Ready? Let’s do this!

A session generally lasts 45 minutes to 2 hours.  I take the time needed for your situation, but I am also efficient and do not waste time.

Be ready to get down & dirty with those you love.  This is not perfect-hair, perfect-outfit, perfect-children photography.  I like to call the first 10 minutes of a shoot the “pretty pictures” because after that, knees get grass-stained, hands get dirty, clothes get wet from fountains or dew in the grass.  Yes, this includes the grown-ups.

Play with your kids.  Toss your toddler in the air.  Lay in the grass and see how fast the kids climb on you.  Hold hands.  Throw leaves.  Smooch & tickle with gusto.  Tell an inside joke to make your tweenager crack up.  Bring along favorite toys or gear (football, bubbles, chalk, whatever you kid insists on bringing to the park everyday!).  Play a game like Simon Says or I Spy.  Roll with it and don’t try to control things.  Be yourselves while I snap the moments.

And, if things “melt down” as they almost always do, we take a break and change the scene.  I can read kids pretty well and have lots of experience making people feel comfortable.   Sometimes kids relax & cooperate much more without mom & dad around (why is that?!) so if I wink & say we’re going to take some secret shots around the corner, don’t worry, we’ll be right back.  Way normal.

Continue to after the session…
